The breed of dog is not the most important thing to look for when choosing your friend.  There are so many different breeds out there, plus mixes of breeds, or mutts, as some may say.  The dog may be a mutt, but he will love you all the same and serve the many of the same functions of any pure breed.  If you own a mutt, you already know that it doesn't matter what his or her background is.  Your dog is still your best friend! 

When choosing a dog, keep in mind that just because it is not purebred does not mean it is any less valuable than a pure breed.  All pure breeds were at one time just mutts, crosses of other breeds bred over time until conformity became the norm.   No matter what breed of dog you have it is still just a dog, and all dogs are of the same species.  Your dogs will be your best friend if treated well; they will love you and be loyal to you regardless of background. 

If you have a mutt you know that this dog can be trained to do many of the same things that pure breeds do.  Just because the dog is not purebred does not mean he can’t be a good guard dog or a good hunting dog, for example.  Every dog is a good companion regardless of his breed.  Each dog has his own unique personality and talents just like each one of us. So, say HOORAY for mutts and give him a big squeeze!
